UPDATE: As of August 2016, Golden House Family KTV no longer uses KY machines and have switched to TJ Media
We held the second karaoke session for J-Karaoke Manila at Golden House Family KTV last Saturday, April 30, 2015.
I more of a J-Rock fan so I'll have to say that the last session's line up was more appealing to me. However, this session's song list was much better overall as it provided a better representation of J-music genres. Beyond anime songs and J-Rock, we finally had more J-Pop, including girl and boy bands. We also had a wider range of eras, from 60's kayokyoku to 2015 songs, to one of the new ending songs this season (I won't spoil it, though).
Top artist this session was AKB48. Last month's top artist, L'Arc~en~Ciel, only had one song on the list - maybe because the top fans are at another event some blocks away.
This was the first J-Karaoke session I had where the singers chose a good number of multi-singer songs like duets (Preserved Roses, PRIDE) and group songs (Magia, Hiiro no Fuusha ~Moulin Rouge~). Usually people just stick to the normal songs because they're easier to practice alone, but this new set of singers looked forward to taking on the challenge.
Like last time, you can find the sortable list of songs below. As I said above, I don't want to spoil hidden gems from the list, however, I'd like to point out two things about it.
First were the "classic" mainstream Japanese songs. Everyone knows Sweet Soul Revue, but not a lot of Filipinos are aware of the original names of the songs behind "Ikaw Pa Rin" (Saigo no Iiwake) and "Sukiyaki" (Ue wo Muite Arukou).
And finally, we failed to realize that it's Cardcaptor Sakura's 20th anniversary of publication. Purely out of coincidence we did a hyper-masculine rendition of Catch You, Catch Me, and we had Tobira wo Akete as our closing song. (It would even be PLATINUM had we started a few minutes earlier).
